12 Scenarios Shaping a Sustainable Future

Together with Science Park Borås, we have explored Swedes' attitudes to sustainability and future scenarios. The consumption report is based on a survey with responses from over 1000 residents with different backgrounds and political views. The report paints a bleak picture of Swedes' views on climate action - but also shows hope and faith in the future.

First climate disaster - then action
The report “12 scenarios shaping a sustainable future” presents twelve future scenarios that together provide a picture of a possible sustainable future. One of the more surprising insights is that 45% of respondents wish for a major climate disaster to occur to accelerate climate action, while 22% believe this will actually happen.

These results may indicate that many citizens believe it is impossible to take sufficient action before brutal disasters occur near us in Sweden. In comparison to the drastic political decisions taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the kind of action that is also required for the climate crisis.
