China Smart Mobility

Smart city is a new buzzword in China. The concept was first promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in 2012 and later supported by the Central Committee and the State Council. There are now 196 pilot smart cities in China.

With Chinese cities suffering from congestion and pollution, smart mobility has become an integral part of the concept of smart city as an approach to improve the quality of transportation. Over the last few years, a number of smart mobility initiatives have been rolled out across the country. With large investments, it is an area of opportunities but also risks for companies spanning equipment suppliers, system integrators, platform providers, and content suppliers.

This report seeks to outline the policy directions, investments, actors, challenges, and opportunities in China’s smart mobility push.
