China's Map of Innovation

We have charted the innovation landscape of China to understand where this emerging technological super power is heading. This has been possible by analyzing the complete database of Chinese invention patent applications and grants from the State Intellectual Property Office of China, from 1985 to today. In 2011 alone, Chinese invention patents surpassed 170,000. The map shows the geography of Chinese research and development (R&D) based on patent applications with Chinese priority since 2010.
