The Future of Leadership

The lecture highlights differences linked to views on leadership between people born in the 70's and the 80's, as well as values and lifestyles trends among young people, labor market trends, etc.

There is an ongoing change among different generations' perception of work and working life. This becomes clear when comparing the approach to work and leadership of people born in the 80's against how people born in the 70's looked at it ten years ago. The search for "fun" among those born in the 70's has its equivalent in the search for meaningfulness, safety, balance and good wages among those born in the 80's today. This shift is also reflected in their views on leadership. While being a manager was regarded as a path towards self-realization among those born in the 70's ten years ago, it is nowadays linked to the opportunity of doing something meaningful and important among those born in the 80's today.
