In 1994, our colleagues Per Florén and Jörgen Jedbratt, together with Peter Gustafsson, published the book Internet: Your Guide to the Future of Business.
Three decades later, it is time to reflect again on what the Internet once was, what it has become, and what it might evolve into in the future. We live in an era where understanding the fundamentals—such as megatrends and institutional changes—is of utmost importance. The Internet remains one of the most transformative forces in this context.
The 1990s were marked by bold visions of the future, some of which have materialized today. In contrast, the 2020s have seen an “underhype” of the future. While technological setbacks have occurred, the supporting structures may have evolved faster than our collective understanding.
This project will utilize tools and methods developed over 30 years at Kairos Future to explore the future through scenario planning. By bringing together key thought leaders and organizations in workshops, we aim to craft scenarios and stories that challenge and expand our perspectives. Our goal is to grasp the future ecosystem, with the Internet as a focal point.
We have already assembled an international group of leading thinkers and organizations to analyze this topic and develop future scenarios. In Sweden, the project is set to be presented at Internetdagarna this November.
